2020 Week of Prayer
January 6 @ 6:45 pm - January 10 @ 7:30 pm
“There is no one who calls upon Your name, who rouses himself to take hold of You.”
(Isaiah 64:7 ESV)
This is part of Isaiah’s prayer lamenting the judgement of God on Israel. How did Isaiah know God was judging them for their sin? Among other things, because he saw the general attitude of prayerlessness. No one stirred himself up to take hold of God in prayer. A careful reader will notice, though, that Isaiah himself is praying. He’s taking hold of God by confessing sin, and in v. 8 begins to plead with God for mercy and forgiveness. Isaiah is taking hold of God.
Stop and consider that image—that glorious, surprising, scandalous image. We are permitted to grab hold and wrestle with Almighty God! Beloved, take hold of God.
The Fellowship Hall will be open January 6th-10th, 6:45pm-7:30pm for a time of prayer to pray in the New Year. Do you want to see our congregation marked by an outpouring of God’s Spirit? Do you long for us to grow in godliness, in love, in fruitfulness? Shouldn’t we crave a deeper sense of God’s steadfast, immeasurable love in our own lives and in our brothers’ and sisters’ lives? Beloved, let us rouse ourselves and take hold of God!
Childcare will be provided, and I know not everyone can make every night. But, brothers and sisters, if we want to see God move among us like He is able to; if we want to see our friends, family, neighbors and classmates turning to the Lord; if we want ourselves to see growth in godliness, why would we not rearrange that one week to pray together for those things?
I’m praying that God will mercifully stir us to rouse ourselves and take hold of Him. Will you join me?
